He was born as Edward Christopher Sheeran in England. He learned to play the guitar at age eleven and began writing songs at High School. In a 2004 school report he was voted by his classmates "most likely to be famous". In 2007 he successfully auditioned for Youth Music Theatre UK. He started playing in small venues in 2008 and in 2009 began studying music at the Academy Of Contemporary Music at the age of 18 but left in the same year to support a hip hop artist. By this time Ed had released 2 EPs already independently and in 2010 he released an EP called 'Loose Change' which was critcally acclaimed.
In 2011 his debut single 'The A Team' peaked at #3 in the UK Single Charts and later that year he released his debut album '+' (Plus), which topped the UK, Irish, Australian and New Zealandian album charts and peaked at #5 in the USA. The album was certified diamond in 8x platinum in the UK, 6x in Ireland, 4x in Canada and 2x in USA among other countries. The album was sold over 4 million times worldwide.
In 2013 Ed provided the title song for the movie 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' which peaked at #2 in the German Single Charts. In 2014 he released his next album '×' (Multiply) which topped the album charts in the UK, Australia, USA, Canada, Germany and many more. It was certified diamond in Australia and Germany and 12x platinum in the UK, 8x in Canada and 4x in the USA among other countries. It sold around 8 million times worldwide. The singles 'Sing' and 'Thinking Out Loud' topped the UK Single Charts and also the charts in Australia.
In 2017 he released his 3rd studio album '÷' (Divide) which topped the charts all across the world in many countries like the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, Germany, France, Ireland and many, many more. It was certified diamond in Australia and Sweden, 12x platinum in UK, 8x in Canada, and 4x in the USA among other countries. It sold over 7 million times worldwide. 2 singles topped the UK & US Single Charts ('Shape Of You' and 'Perfect') and at times Ed Sheeran's songs were all over the UK Single Charts forcing the company to change the rules for future charts, so only 3 songs from one artist are now allowed at the same time.
In 2019 Ed Sheeran released his next album: one with all collabs as it was called 'No.6 Collaborations Project'. It topped the charts in the UK, Australia, Canada and the UK. 2 songs of the album topped the UK Single Charts. His next album '-' (Minus) is announced to be released in 2021.
